History of Independence Day in Clear Lake, IA
Clear Lake has been celebrating Independence Day since 1856, when roughly 800 people gathered on the lakeshore for music, a civic speech, and a community holiday by the water. The tradition grew into a full-day 1899 program with races, a water carnival, and a “Grand Illumination” over the lake.
Today, the celebration brings together carnival lights in City Park, Main Avenue parade traditions, live music, lakefront crowds, and fireworks reflected across the water. For America 250 in 2026, Clear Lake’s long-running Fourth feels especially meaningful.
